March is a wild time of year in college basketball. Every team wants a chance to dance their way into America’s heart via the NCAA March Madness Tournament. For teams in the Mountain West this year, the only opportunity for that chance is to win the conference tournament this weekend in Las Vegas, NV. The number one seed, San Diego State, survived a major upset bid in the first game of the day, barely beating the number nine seed, Utah State. University of Nevada then upset the University of New Mexico, defeating them by a narrow margin to complete the morning games.
SMBA ’17 students Eric Wall, Andrew Sklar, and Sean McCarthy all volunteered for the 2016 Mountain West Conference CFO, Gary Walenga (SMBA ’07), assisting in a variety of areas. These included sponsorship activation, ticket operations, and fan engagement for the MWC and mobile technology company, Experience (ExpApp.com), a partner of the MWC.
Check back here tomorrow to see the results of the second session of games tonight as well as the women’s championships and the men’s semifinals.
