East Coast to West Coast: Amy Ross Named Student of the Week

Straight from the city that never sleeps, Amy moved cross-country for this one-of-a-kind Sports MBA program. This die-hard Yankees fan decided to put her pen and paper down for an MBA degree and a career in baseball. Read below to find out more about our new student of the week!

Hometown: The Bronx, NY

Undergraduate College: Penn State

Favorite sports to play: Softball and Tae Kwon Do

Favorite Sports Movie: Hardball (if you didn’t cry when G-Baby died…you’re probably not human)

Why SDSU Sports MBA: I went to school for journalism with hopes of writing for the sports section of a newspaper. However, after graduation, I became more interested in the business side of sports, so I began researching MBA programs and found SDSU’s Sports MBA. Its unlimited networking opportunities, challenging yet valuable curriculum, and great alumni network were a few of the reasons why I decided to step out of my comfort zone and leave the fast-paced life to experience the West Coast for the first time.

Favorite class so far: Sports Marketing because everyday I learn the psychological reasons as to why I behave the way I do as a sports fan.

Fun fact about you: I sat in a Dunk Tank two summers ago while interning with the State College Spikes.

Best out of the classroom activity so far: The WISE Speed Mentoring Roundtables event– I was able to meet a few of the successful women in the sports industry talk about their careers and experiences being women in such a male-dominated field. They provided a lot of great advice on how to build our network, never give up on our goals, and always staying true to our values.
