The Sports MBA Program is extremely excited to have our new class with us on campus! Orientation was a whirlwind few days for our staff and our students but it was a great experience for our new cohort.
When the Class of 2018 arrived on campus they were welcomed by Dr. Joe Belch, Interim Dean of the Fowler College of Business, enjoyed lunch with the program’s faculty, and got to know one another. Each student in the cohort has a unique and interesting background, and we have the highest aspirations for the group as a whole.
We also had a surprise in store for the new students-a behind the scenes tour of Petco Park! Alumnus Roberto Castro (SMBA ‘11), an Event Operations Manager with the San Diego Padres, was gracious enough to show the students around including the Padres dugout, strength and conditioning room, and even the clubhouse. The students also got to meet a second Sports MBA alumna, Veronica Nogueira (SMBA ‘09), the Manager, Community Relations and Hispanic Outreach with the club. They learned a lot and were able to see first-hand the extensive alumni network our program offers.
The next day, the Class of 2018 met at the beautiful Torrey Pines golf course, where the Farmer’s Insurance Open is held every year. The students will be volunteering for the Century Club at all four days of the event, so this was a chance for them to see the course and meet executives prior to next week’s tournament. This year we expect quite a buzz, as Tiger Woods will be returning to play once again.
Our students are now starting classes, hitting the ground running with Organizational Behavior and Finance on their first day. We are excited to see what great things this group accomplishes!
Check back often for updates on the Class of 2018!
