Ronda Sedillo, Senior Vice President and CFO of the San Diego Padres (and proud alumna of San Diego State University) recently hosted the SDSU Sports MBA Class of 2016 and Sports MBA faculty for a game at Petco Park in a suite in the Western Metals building in left field. The evening was much more than a night at the ballpark; Ronda set up visits from a number of team executives, who each spoke with students about their respective positions in baseball operations, marketing, sponsorship, community relations, analytics, and ticketing.
In addition to Ronda Sedillo, the executives that spent time with the Sports MBA students and faculty were:
Sue Botos – Vice President of Community Relations
Katie Jackson – Director of Global Marketing and Activation
Nick Ennis – Director of Baseball Operations
Ryan Gustafson – Senior Director of Strategy and Innovation
Erik McKenzie – Vice President of Sales
Danielle Sergeant – Director of Partnership Services
Each one of these executives gave the students different tips about how to develop their future careers in the sports industry by talking about their individual backgrounds and the challenges they face on a daily basis.
SDSU Sports MBA students and faculty would like to express our sincere gratitude to Ronda Sedillo for making this event possible, and thank the Padres front office executives for sharing their time with us. We were thrilled to spend this time at Petco Park to learn more about the business side of the baseball industry.
