Quarterback Guru George Whitfield Visits Classroom

The SMBA ’15 classroom was recently visited by one of the hottest names in football: George Whitfield Jr. Coach Whitfield’s quarterback academy, Whitfield Athletix, is located in San Diego. He and his academy helped develop quarterbacks since 2004. Recently, has gained national attention for his success working with former No. 1 overall draft picks Cam Newton and Andrew Luck, as well as potential 2014 first round pick, Johnny Manziel. His distinctive style of training – which focuses on creating chaos as opposed to simply dropping back and throwing in a controlled environment – has been featured on “SportsCenter,” “College Gameday” and other media outlets.

Coach Whitfield spoke about his roots as a quarterback in the Arena Football League and creating the most prestigious quarterback academy in the country. The academy works with quarterback talent from third graders all the way up to potential NFL draft picks, and everyone in between. Innovation is what has led to Coach Whitfield’s success. Whether it’s taking his pupils down to the water in Mission Beach and having them run drills in the sand or pursuing the quarterbacks with brooms during their repetitions – the premise is all about teaching players to evade chaos in game-like situations.

It was a great privilege to have Coach Whitfield make his inaugural appearance in the classroom with this year’s cohort. Having one of the most relevant names in football today come and speak about his work with clients, corporate sponsorships and the media was an incredible experience. We look forward to hearing his insightful analysis on ESPN leading up to next month’s NFL Draft.
