San Diego in person

Our cohort is definitely a great mix of backgrounds and personalities, but the sparkle is given by a local. Sarah Jansky has been one of the most participative and active students not only in class. Her positive attitude and bright personality fill our lectures with joy as if she was herself the perfect weather of San Diego, where she was born and raised. Her remarkably participative posture, effective questions and opinions have contributed to improving the quality of classes and vigorous discussions. It was also natural that she actively engaged in the field works in our Dominican Republic trip as she led the “I believe that we will win!”, showing that the Aztec blood also runs through her veins. Sarah, as a San Diego native, wants to pursue a career in the San Diego sports teams. I believe that she will win!

What made you choose SDSU’s Sports MBA program?

I wanted to get my MBA at San Diego State since I had such a great undergraduate experience here. This city has been and will continue to be my lifelong home, so networking here will present the best opportunity to establish a career in the city I love most. I have always followed sports closely, so as soon as I came across this program, and found out about the trip to the Dominican Republic as part of our academic experience, I was sold on the Sports MBA.
What has been your most memorable experience so far in the SMBA program?

My most memorable experience so far in the SMBA program was the week the cohort spent in the Dominican Republic. I will never forget playing games with middle and high school level students at their school, visiting the Padres’ beautiful facility, and experiencing another culture that is completely unique from anywhere I have traveled.
What do you hope to achieve while you’re a student in this program personally?

As a San Diego native, I would love nothing more than to dedicate my career to one of the teams in this city. I believe my passion for the teams here will be demonstrated in my work. I could see myself in a variety of fields, including media, operations, and marketing. However, my overall goal will be to work with the Chargers, Padres, or Aztec Athletics.
So far, what is your favorite class, and why?

My favorite class so far was the Finance class we took with Professor Frank Ryan. I had him as a professor for three of my finance classes in my undergraduate program, and was happy to find out I would have him again in this MBA program. He is not only extremely knowledgeable about the subject, but always makes sure to demonstrate real world applications of what we are learning in class.
What are you looking forward to All Star week in San Diego?

I will be volunteering with Fox Sports San Diego, and am very excited for the opportunity to be on the media side of the event, as that is one of the areas in the sports industry that I am most interested in.
