SMBA ’07 Meets SMBA ’17: A Decade of Shared Experiences

Introductions were in order when Steve Gera (SMBA ’07) visited the classroom to build up the excitement for the rest of the year.

On Monday afternoon, the current MBA class had the privilege of meeting and engaging with a SMBA 2007 alumnus, Steve Gera. Steve will be teaching the class over the summer helping the students further discover and prepare themselves for the professional world. Gera is devoted in helping us land the proper job in a sports organization after graduation by teaching them about sports business, leadership and ethics.

A few of the items that he will be focusing on include helping each student discover continuous self-development, his/her purpose and excellence as well discovering their true passion.

Steve has had an impressive track record since graduating in ’07. He served in the Marine Corps including two combat tours in Iraq. He then transitioned into the NFL becoming a football analyst and assistant coach for the San Diego Chargers, specifically focused on quality control for six years. Following the Chargers, he got hired as the Head of Innovation for the Cleveland Browns and remained in this role for two years. Currently, in addition to being a lecturer at San Diego State, he is managing director and co-founder of Winning Algorithms and is involved in several other ventures.

It is safe to say that SMBA ’17 is in good hands going forward!
