Lisa Jenkins (SMBA ’06) stopped by last Friday to chat with the current SMBA cohort as a part of San Diego State Sports MBA Alumni Week. Lisa is the National Event Marketing Manager of the Red Bull Signature Series at Red Bull North America. As a someone interested in the action sport industry, I was excited for Lisa to come in and speak to us about her work with the Red Bull Signature Series. One of the great things about the San Diego State Sports MBA program is how alumni end up working in many different areas of the sports world. Hearing from speakers like Lisa is great because it help the cohort fully understand just how many different opportunities there are to work in sports.
In addition to talking about her career path, she also gave us some helpful advice about the job searching process. This was a very helpful topic for the cohort because with the year quickly coming closer to the end of our time in the classroom many of us are starting to search for career opportunities and prepare for interviews in the coming weeks. She gave advice across many different aspects of the job search process. Some of the advice she gave us included networking, resume building, preparing for interviews, and how to differentiate yourself from the other candidates applying for the same position.
Personally, I wasn’t just excited to have Lisa speak to us because she works for Red Bull; I was also excited to have a fellow graduate of the University of Georgia come into the class. Not only did Lisa provide the class with some great advice, but she also let us know that when she and Scott Minto were classmates she would make him listen to the Georgia fight song when she drove their carpool to school. For that reason, in addition to the outstanding advice she gave, she immediately became one of my favorite guest speakers of the year. I’m very appreciative of Lisa taking the time out of her schedule to come down to San Diego to talk to the SMBA Class of 2015.
