The Race Gets Tighter: Day 2 at the Mountain West Conference Tournament

Written by Sean McCarthy and Andrew Sklar

On the women’s side, Colorado State’s women’s team pulled out a thrilling come from behind victory in the final seconds over Fresno State’s women’s team to complete an outstanding one loss season leading into the NCAA tournament. In the men’s games today, the Aztecs won in convincing fashion over the Nevada Wolfpack and their star freshman, Cameron Oliver. Fresno State in turn won their game, setting the stage for a 1-2 seed showdown in tomorrow’s championship game.

On the volunteering front, Eric, Andrew, and Sean started off the day busy staging for the women’s championship game. They were physically responsible for bringing in portions of the stage to center court in a timely fashion for post game celebrations. They also were quite busy pre and post both of the men’s semifinal games. Again, heavily involved with Mountain West Conference partner Experience, they assisted with pushing ticket upgrades to enhance fan experience as well engaging in sponsorship activation. The opportunities presented at the tournament this weekend have greatly opened their eyes to the marketing that takes during a sporting event.

Check back tomorrow for the MWC Championship game featuring the SDSU Aztecs versus the Fresno State Bulldogs. It should be an absolutely riveting final and an satisfying close to a memorable three days working with MWC CFO, Gary Walenga (SMBA ’07).
