This week, the SMBA ‘18 class had the distinct pleasure of having 2014 SMBA alumnus, and current member of Victus Advisors, Walter Franco, visit the classroom. At Victus Advisors, Walter specializes in market research, strategic analysis and consulting on behalf of many clients. As a bilingual employee, he has been able to work on projects with clients of English and Spanish-speaking clients, many of which are in the world of professional soccer, including Liga MX clubs as well as cities in Mexico.
Walter brought with him multiple case studies from Victus Advisors clients that he or other members of the Victus team have worked on, including the opportunity for us to contribute ideas for Liga MX teams to encourage more interaction with fans in the United States. As the most followed soccer league in the United States, above even English Premier League, Bundesliga, and MLS, Liga MX is facing unique challenges with the decreasing population of Spanish-speaking Mexican-Americans in the United States. Considered an expert on the matter by ESPN, Franco once said in an article that it is a race among Mexican clubs to see who can be more relevant in the US and Mexico.
This exercise with real world application had our whole class thinking critically about the globalization of sports, their governing bodies, and the fans impacted by decisions made at the top. We look forward to following the success of Walter and Victus Advisors endeavors in the industry.
